When it comes to Canadian Hockey teams, most Canadians will choose their favourites, and they have seven they can choose from if they want to stay with those that represent Canada. If you asked a Canadian who their favourite team was, they would all give you a different answer. However, the Montreal Canadiens have always been popular.
Montreal Canadiens
As can be guessed by the name, they are a Montreal Quebec team. They came about in 1909 and, as such, have earned the name for being one of the oldest sports teams. With their long record of play, they have won the Stanley Cup for a total of 24 times.
Ottawa Senators
This is known as a strong team and a popular one. They were founded in 1992. They did get to the playoffs for the Stanley Cup but did not come out the victors.
Toronto Maple Leafs
This is a highly popular team, even for those from other provinces and cities. Throughout the years, they have had 13 wins of the Stanley Cup. Although impressive, they have gone several years without a win; however, their fans are just as supportive of them.
Winnipeg Jets
Their franchise has been around since 1999. When first starting out, they were called the Atlanta Thrashers. The name was later changed to the Winnipeg Jets. This is a team that has yet to win any type of trophy in the National Hockey League.
Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers
It is unusual for a province to have two teams, but Alberta can boast of this. One being the Calgary Flames and the other the Edmonton Oilers. The Calgary Flames have been the winner of one Stanley Cup.
Vancouver Canucks
This is a team that has come close to winning the Stanley Cup but has not quite succeeded. They, like the other teams, are constantly making changes with the hopes of winning the much-coveted trophy.
